Lamplight Home School

Terms

Lamplight is a free, invite-only home school app for one family at a time. Your family's work belongs to your family. These are the rules for using it.

Who is offering this

Lamplight Home School, at lamplight.family, operated by Rob Molina. Postal address: not published yet. Reach us at [email protected].

Who may use it

  • You need an invite code to create an account. Lamplight is not open to the public and does not want to be.
  • The account holder must be an adult — a parent or guardian — and is responsible for the schoolhouse, including everyone at the table.
  • Children use the app under that adult’s supervision, with a portrait and a PIN. They do not hold accounts of their own and cannot create one.
  • One schoolhouse is for one household. A second parent joins the same schoolhouse with the invite code rather than starting a parallel one.

What it costs

Nothing. Lamplight charges no fee, has no subscription, no trial that converts, and no upgrade. There is nothing to cancel and nothing that renews. See the payments and refunds page, which says the same thing at more length because a shopper is entitled to find it somewhere obvious.

One cost is worth naming because it is not ours: if you add your own xAI API key so that Grok can write lessons, xAI bills you for that usage under your agreement with them, not with us. Lamplight caps how many lessons and hints a schoolhouse can request per day so that a stuck loop cannot run up a bill.

Your family's work is yours

  • Everything your family puts into Lamplight — lesson plans, written work, marks, notes, reading logs, records — belongs to your family. Lamplight claims no ownership of it and no licence to publish it.
  • It is not used to train any model, is not pooled with other families’ work, and is not sold.
  • Lessons Grok writes for you are saved to your own shelf, not to a shared library.
  • The Lamplight name, the lantern mark and the app itself are not yours, and the licence to use them ends when your access does.

Fair use of the app

Do not:

  • Upload or paste a copyrighted curriculum, teacher’s guide, or workbook you do not have the right to reproduce. Use the sequence as a spine and let lessons be written fresh, or assign work beside a book you own.
  • Try to reach another family’s schoolhouse, or another person’s PIN.
  • Automate the lesson and hint endpoints beyond ordinary family use, or work around the daily caps.
  • Use Lamplight to store anything unlawful, or to harm anyone.

What Grok writes, and what it does not know

Some lessons and hints are written by a language model. They are drafts for a parent to read, assign, rewrite or discard — not a curriculum, not a qualified teacher, and not checked by anyone before you see them. A model can be confidently wrong. Read what it writes before a child does.

Lamplight makes no claim about educational outcomes, test results, admissions, or compliance with any state’s home school requirements. Keeping your family on the right side of the law where you live is yours to do, and the records Lamplight produces are a tool for that, not proof of it.

Availability, and losing access

  • The app is provided as it is. There is no uptime guarantee and no support commitment, because promising either would be a lie at this size.
  • Keep your own copy of anything you cannot lose. Records and reports can be printed from the app.
  • An account can be suspended or removed for breaking the rules above. You can ask for yours to be deleted at any time, for any reason or none.

Liability, and the law that applies

Lamplight is offered free, without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent the law where you live allows. Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have that cannot be taken away by agreement — and in several places, consumer law says exactly that.

The governing law, the venue for a dispute, and any limitation on liability are not published yet. They are being drafted rather than copied from another company’s terms, which is why they are not asserted here yet.

Changes

These terms change when the product does; the date at the top moves with them. If a change matters to you and you would rather not accept it, ask for your schoolhouse to be deleted.
